"Loving what you do"

Here we have story of Emma, who joined our team 6 months ago as a Support Worker, and her wonderful relationship with Caroline!

It was a friend who recommended that I check out the McFarlane Trust website for job opportunities. It was easy to apply online and the interview process with the team really made me feel comfortable. My last job was in childcare and this is my first role as a Support Worker. Initially, I was 12 hours a week and now I am working 35 hours a week.

About 3 months ago, I became Caroline’s Keyworker and we clicked straight away. Caroline loves art, jigsaws and our time together is so precious as I see her build up her confidence. With Caroline recently turning 50, we had a birthday party to celebrate and I got to meet her Mum and family members too.

We have a karaoke night lined up with Caroline’s favourite, ABBA, definitely on the playlist. Music aside, we have plenty in the calendar to look forward to with a trip to Saltcoats to visit her sister.

That family feeling stretches across the McFarlane Trust team. It is great how well you get to know all the people, your work colleagues and the managers – it feels like a big family and the support is tremendous.

What I really value about McFarlane Trust are the opportunities for making people feel really independent. The dignity, freedom and respect shown is humbling.

6 months in and I am receiving positive feedback from my managers which is reassuring. It feels good to see you are making the difference. Loving what you do is very important in life – I am delighted I made the leap to join McFarlane Trust!
